Celsa<\/a><\/strong> is a company specialized in the production of steel<\/strong> and derivative products. The company has grown significantly, expanding its presence internationally and becoming a leader<\/strong> in Europe<\/strong> in the production of low-emission circular steel<\/strong>. Celsa<\/strong> stands out for its focus on sustainability<\/strong>, implementing recycling<\/strong> processes and energy efficiency<\/strong> in its production. Additionally, it is known for its ability to adapt to market changes<\/strong> and its commitment to innovation<\/strong>, which has allowed it to remain a key player in the steel industry for over five decades<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We spoke with Laia Soler<\/strong>, Innovation Manager<\/strong> at Celsa Group<\/strong> Spain and France, who holds a Ph.D. in materials science<\/strong> and has extensive experience in corporate innovation. She has participated in the development of the company\u2019s open innovation strategy<\/strong>, promoting collaboration with other companies and the development of pilot projects<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\t

How would you define Celsa Group\u2019s innovation model?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Innovation Unit<\/strong> acts as a bridge between the technological ecosystem and the business units, driving projects that contribute to our goals of zero emissions<\/strong>, total circularity<\/strong>, and worker 5.0<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In this moment of ecological<\/strong> and digital transition<\/strong>, we face challenges that lack commercial solutions. In this regard, we rely on the capabilities of our R&D+i ecosystem<\/strong>. We actively collaborate in the co-development<\/strong> of solutions with research organizations such as universities<\/strong>, research or technological centers, as well as with other companies and startups<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This collaborative<\/strong> approach not only strengthens our ability to tackle complex challenges but also enriches our innovation<\/strong> process and positions us more efficiently in the face of these environmental changes.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Celsa is a company that stands out for its willingness to collaborate with startups. Why do you think these alliances are important?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are a millenary industry<\/strong> going through a sectoral transformation<\/strong> phase, where needs and technologies<\/strong> are constantly changing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Collaborating with startups<\/strong> gives us access to fresh ideas<\/strong> and cutting-edge technologies<\/strong> that enhance our capabilities and keep us at the forefront<\/strong>. This way, we can be more agile and work within a model where both parties benefit and grow together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, innovation<\/strong> must align with environmental<\/strong> and social sustainability<\/strong>, making partnerships with external agents even more essential!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What innovation challenges are you currently working on? Can you share some examples?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We focus on cross-cutting challenges<\/strong> that allow us to implement scalable<\/strong> solutions after validating them with a proof of concept<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, we have been working on six key challenges:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Industrial energy efficiency<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Efficient water management<\/li>\n\n\n\n

  • Nanoparticles from steel by-products<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    How do you foster a culture of innovation within your organization?<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    We believe that creating value<\/strong> through projects that positively impact operational areas is essential to engage teams to participate and propose new ideas. We strive to maintain a continuous dialogue<\/strong> with functional units to promote effective collaboration and a conducive environment for innovation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    We also organize, for example, awareness sessions<\/strong> with entrepreneurs or experts on technologies<\/strong> and trends<\/strong>, and maintain constant internal communication about initiatives, R&D+i projects<\/strong>, and events<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Celsa<\/strong> is one of the founding companies of INDPULS<\/strong>. Why do you think collaborative innovation is important?<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
