INDPULS visited the 10th edition of Advanced Factories in Barcelona<\/strong>, one of the benchmark events in automation, industrial robotics and Industry 4.0 technologies. The trade fair, held from 5 to 7 May at Fira Barcelona Gran Via, brought together more than 33,000 industrial professionals, 758 exhibiting companies and 1,697 technological innovations and solutions<\/strong>, with an estimated economic impact of more than 91 million euros for the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Advanced Factories also hosts the Industry 4.0 Congress, an international forum focused on the trends, experiences and strategies that are transforming industry. In this edition, the congress addressed areas such as artificial intelligence, robotics, cybersecurity, 3D printing, sustainability, IT\/OT integration, digital twins, IoT and energy efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AI, a key driver of advanced industry<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Once again, artificial intelligence was one of the main highlights of Advanced Factories. Technology platforms and MES systems for the digitalization and optimization of Industry 4.0 processes are increasingly incorporating AI assistants designed specifically for industrial environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These solutions make it possible to automate processes related to quality, safety, maintenance and operational management. They also enable better data analysis and more agile real-time decision-making<\/strong>. AI is no longer presented solely as an emerging technology. It is becoming established as a cross-cutting capability to improve efficiency, traceability, productivity and the adaptability of industrial organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this edition, Advanced Factories placed special emphasis on the implementation of AI in industry. Also on the need to integrate it into production processes as a lever for competitiveness. Key topics such as generative AI, agentic AI and physical AI applied to the real world were also addressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

A technology radar for INDPULS challenges<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

During the visit, INDPULS had the opportunity to take a close look at the proposals of different exhibitors, including ACCI\u00d3, Telef\u00f3nica, Eurecat, Leitat, Factorial, Circutor, Mapex and Secartys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visit made it possible to identify AI solutions with the potential to respond to some of the use cases being explored with INDPULS member companies.<\/strong> One example is the application of AI to onboarding management and personalized training. An area with a direct impact on talent management, knowledge transfer and internal efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This technology radar exercise is especially relevant at a time when many INDPULS member companies have already identified opportunities to apply AI. Now they need to compare solutions, validate use cases and move forward with a clear and informed approach to adoption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Featured congress sessions<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Among the congress sessions, one highlight was \u201cInnovation in the age of artificial intelligence: building an innovation ecosystem to power advanced factories\u201d. The seeion led by Jerome Engel, Founding Executive Director Emeritus of the Lester Center for Entrepreneurship at UC Berkeley Haas. Engel addressed how new AI-driven capabilities are transforming manufacturing and logistics, particularly in areas such as robotics, decision-making and autonomous agents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another relevant session was \u201cThe CEO of 2040: leading autonomous, sustainable and intelligence-based organizations\u201d. Which explored the role of industrial leaders in a context in which AI, sustainability and automation will redefine the way organisations are managed. The session featured Jordi Mir\u00f3 Ma\u00f1osa, CEO of Doga, and Xabier Alzaga, CEO of Danobat, and was moderated by Joan Guasch, Director of Corporate Affairs at Eurecat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both sessions reinforced a central idea: advanced industry does not depend solely on the incorporation of technology<\/strong>. But also on the ability to build ecosystems, develop talent, activate new leadership models and connect innovation with the real challenges faced by companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AI Continent: regulation, resources and trustworthy AI<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As part of Advanced Factories, we also attended the session organized by ACCI\u00d3, \u201cAI Continent: European strategy and key resources to boost AI\u201d. ACCI\u00d3 was present at the fair with activities aimed at connecting industrial companies facing technological challenges with suppliers, technology centers and experts in artificial intelligence and digitalization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The session focused on the European strategy around AI, regulation and the resources available to help companies move towards responsible, safe adoption aligned with the regulatory framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the resources presented was AgrifoodTEF, the European network of Testing and Experimentation Facilities dedicated to accelerating the adoption of AI and robotics in agriculture and food. This infrastructure helps companies test and validate solutions in real environments, reducing technical, regulatory and market risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The OEIAC, the Observatory of Ethics in Artificial Intelligence of Catalonia, was also presented. It provides organizations with the PIO Model, an assessment tool for the ethical and legal use of data and AI systems. The model enables a pre-assessment of AI systems according to the risk categories established by European artificial intelligence regulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Applied innovation to strengthen industrial competitiveness<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The visit to Advanced Factories 2026 confirms that industry is entering a new stage of technological adoption. Artificial intelligence, robotics, automation and process digitalization are no longer separate areas<\/strong>. They are converging capabilities that are transforming the way companies produce, decide, maintain, train teams and generate value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
